Sugar and spice and all that’s nice… that’s what little Chloe Spicer is made of.
And with her big smile and loving nature added to the recipe, she’s much loved not only by her mum and dad Melinda & Wayne, but also by her teachers and friends at the Sunshine Special Developmental School.
However 9 year old Chloe has Rett Syndrome, along with uncontrolled epilepsy, and due to the degenerative nature of her underlying condition Chloe’s skills have gradually regressed over the past year. Her mobility and motor skills are now being severely impacted, as is her ever worsening scoliosis (spinal curvature). For Chloe to keep further spinal deformities at bay and maintain adequate circulation (not to mention being able to eat, play and learn) , it’s vital that she’s able to sit symmetrically and weight bear across her body evenly.
When we learned about Chloe last week she had been previously using a special supportive seat at home but had grown out of it and desperately needed a new one. Her physiotherapist at Yooralla believed a Smirthwaite Brookfield chair with some specialised accessories would do the job a treat and could grow as Chloe did into the future.
With the wonderful Sunshine Lions Club donating $900, and the State-wide Equipment Program contributing $500, the amount remaining to be found was $1269.
It took this wonderful community just 2 days to get the job done for Chloe!
